DLI Launches First Online Prevailing Wage Surveys for Construction and Nonconstruction Occupations

  • — April 22 2026

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) is launching its first fully online prevailing wage surveys for both construction and nonconstruction occupations to determine the 2026 prevailing wage rates used on public works and certain commercial projects. Moving from paper-based to digital surveys is designed to make participation faster, easier, and more accurate for Montana employers.

“For the first time, employers can complete these important surveys entirely online,” said Sarah Swanson, Commissioner of Labor and Industry. “This change reduces paperwork, simplifies reporting, and strengthens the quality of the wage data that directly affects Montana’s public works and related projects.”

Prevailing wage rates support fair and competitive bidding on public projects and ensure workers are paid wages that reflect actual conditions in Montana’s labor markets. Employer participation in both the construction and nonconstruction surveys is critical to developing accurate, data-driven wage rates that reflect real wages and fringe benefits paid by active employers.

Both surveys are available online only from April 6 through June 30, 2026, through DLI’s secure portal. Employers must submit their surveys by June 30 for their data to be included in the 2026 wage rate-setting process. Additional information, survey instructions, and prevailing wage resources are available on DLI’s Prevailing Wage Guide.
