Montana DLI Hosts Over 200 Students at Jobs for Montana’s Graduates Ignite Conference

  • — April 29 2025

Helena, Mont.-The Montana Department of Labor and Industry (DLI), through its Jobs for Montana’s Graduates (JMG) program, hosted the annual Ignite Conference last week − welcoming 220 students, a 22% increase from last year. Held in Helena over two days, the event empowered students from across Montana to advance their career aspirations, explore higher education opportunities, and develop essential professional skills.

“The Ignite Conference is a transformative experience for Montana’s youth, bringing them together to grow, learn, and chart their paths to success,” said DLI Commissioner Sarah Swanson. “By investing in our state’s most vital resource—our students—we are building a skilled, confident workforce ready to lead Montana’s future.”

The Ignite Conference is a cornerstone of JMG’s mission to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping students with workplace readiness, leadership, and career development skills. This year’s event featured hands-on workplace visits to prominent Montana businesses, such as NorthWestern Energy and Montana Medical Transport, allowing students to gain firsthand insight into high-demand industries.

The event also included workshops on human trafficking taught by the FBI and classes on social media literacy, dining etiquette, and Native American history and culture.

At the Ignite Conference, students participated in networking sessions with peers, employers, and business sponsors actively seeking talent. Competitive events, judged by volunteers, brought theory to reality as students vied to take the top prize in tournaments that included telephone techniques, web page design, public speaking, and a talent show.

JMG, a nationally recognized youth development program, connects students with local employers and provides comprehensive training in professional skills, financial literacy, and career planning. The program’s impact is evident: 94% of JMG participants secure full-time employment after graduation, and 98% graduate high school, far surpassing national averages.

Jobs for Montana’s Graduates is committed to growing opportunities for Montana students. Teachers and administrators: Now is the time to get involved!
